I took this shot a while back when I was living in Melbourne Australia. It was about 4am and my father Rudy was very, very tired. One second after I took this shot the ash fell. Full pic.

Galeria Schaap

When I’m not at our playground on NDSM, you’ll usually find me hanging out at my second home Galeria Schaap, Utrechtsestraat 95. Set in the milieu of an old butcher’s shop, we’ve held many superb events here including exhibitions, concerts, open mic nights, fashion shows, poetry readings, dj events, live theatre performance, film screenings and lots more. If you haven’t been to a party at Galeria Schaap, unfortunately you’ve missed out. I’ve had people describe our parties as the best thing since the RoXY burnt down. We’ve been occupying the space as anti-craic for over a year, however unfortunately I must report that our unofficial event license has been officially revoked. But don’t fret as we will continue to organise more fabulous events, but at other locations instead. The galeria remains open for the public and you’re more than welcome to drop by for a visit and experience our magical little world. Beeh beeh!

I had my first Second Life experience last weekend at MMIF, which celebrates a new cinematic art form, created with 3D virtual worlds and online computer games. Hosted in the auditorium of the PLANETART Medialab Artspace in the Volkskrantgebouw. It was a little too techy for me, although I was excited to see Dolly Parton make a cameo appearance in DiVAS.

I was also curious about the Dadamachinima exhibition, which was presented in the same space and featured a beautiful typographic treatment of Quake III source code in Hidden in Plain Sight (image above) by Gottfried Haider and a nice concept from Aram Bartholl with his First Person Shooter (image below).

Cildo Meireles

At the beginning of the year i had never heard of Cildo Meireles. Now he is one of my heroes. His show at the Tate Modern was a master class in how to transport you into another world where everything you know doesn’t matter anymore.

I thought I would do a list of my favorite people right now.

Johnny Cash. I’m rediscovering the American Man series of albums. Man, his cover of Hurt is a classic.

Georges St. Pierre. He’s an MMA fighter and evidence that with hard work and dedication you can achieve anything. On YouTube he explains how he had to quit school and work as a garbage man to earn the money to train. Now he’s the champ.

Mark in the Dark. You won’t know this guys but he is a local at my favorite bar. Every time I see him, he is impecably dressed. Anyone who can pull of a tartan sports jacket is a dude in my books.

My new Indian friends Abhinav and Vipul that kicked mine and Gus’ butts at pool the other night and then danced Bollywood style to celebrate. I couldn’t help myself and joined in.
