As the doors close forever after this weekend…
The first time I heard about St Jerome’s was from Andrea, a girl I met one night at a bar in North Melbourne where you could watch sumo wrestling and bet shots of saki over who would win. You gotta check this bar out she said. Sure I replied.
The following week I followed Andrea’s instructions and looked for the small glass door in the laneway behind The Lounge, which for some reason, was always full of boxes, just like in car chase scenes (the ceremonial dive into the boxes became a ritual).
I found the door, walked in, and that was it. I was home.
I could induldge in stories about the bar, about the many great nights, about the secret gigs that spawned a nation wide music festival, about the many awesome people, but I won’t. I just want to say thanks for being a home to so many of us.
So from my brother Emmanuel, my father Rudy (yep, he went there too) and me. Cheers.
PS. Monkey, enjoy tonight…
My friend works as a spotter at het nationale ballet and got me tix to the general rehearsal of the new performance - the four temperaments. Go! Go! Go! You WON’T be disappointed…it’s stunning, superb, inspiring. It includes two world premieres and live music performed by Holland Symfonia.
Years ago while I was studying I had a job as a delivery driver. My day started at 5am as I had to deliver breakfast to all the posh function centers around town. I would return from the morning circuit at about 9 am and head across the road to the construction site. Here I met these guys who had built their own fun boxes and grind rails with the material they found lying around. I quickly ran back to my car and grabbed my trusty polaroid camera and took these snaps.
My first memory of Rhys Ripper is of him always looking like a million dollars when we worked together at a music store many, many moons ago. Now he is the man behind Academy for Men, an online publication that is taking the world by storm. I love this shot taken by Cory White from the latest issue.
My brother told me to go to Breakbot’s myspace and to download the mix “NOW!”
Now I’m telling you to go to Breakbot’s myspace and to download the mix “NOW!”
